I’ve been reading a little on the Morman religion and I think I understand more about Mitt. The Mormans declared polygamy illegal in order to get statehood, but of course many of them still practice it anyway. (flip-flop)
There is a communtiy of polygamists in Utah who build mansions for their many wives and kids and live proudly in what they say is harmony and love.(the captive wives may disagree) Many of them have jobs and businesses outside this place and they keep their wives secret so as not to hurt their business. (flip-flop) They kick young boys out of the church so that the elders can marry the young girls.
They say publicly that they serve people of all nations and all races and send missionaries worldwide. Their teachings say that “the mark of Cain” is black skin and all such people are cursed by God. (flip-flop)
This is an excerpt from a paper written at Brigham Young U.-
“Now we are generous with the Negro. We are willing that the Negro have the highest education. I would be willing to let every Negro drive a Cadillac if they could afford it. I would be willing that they have all the advantages they can get out of life in the world. But let them enjoy these things among themselves. I think the Lord segregated the Negro and who is man to change that segregation? It reminds me of the scripture on marriage, “what God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Only here we have the reverse of the thing — what God hath separated, let not man bring together again.”
“Think of the Negro, cursed as to the priesthood…. This Negro, who, in the pre-existence lived the type of life which justified the Lord in sending him to the earth in their lineage of Cain with a black skin, and possibly being born in darkest Africa–if that Negro is willing when he hears the gospel to accept it, he may have many of the blessings of the gospel. In spite of all he did in the pre-existent life, the Lord is willing, if the Negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. If that Negro is faithful all his days, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get celestial glory.” (two-faced flip-flip)
In 1847, a Morman militia dressed up like Paiute Indians and attacked a wagon train of emigrants, convinced them to lay down their arms and talk, and then massacred 120 of them, leaving 17 young children alive but orphaned. The church later executed the guy they picked to blame it on. (no flip-flop on immigration apparently)
When they go on missions to countries that forbid proselytizing and asked what their business there is, they are told to lie and say they are visiting friends or they are given fake papers from some made-up charity org. and told not to mention the church.
Mitt is a product of a church that is very happy to have it both ways whenever it benefits them, willing to say one thing and preach another and deny their own convictions if it might hurt their bottom line.
I don’t mean to bash anyone’s religion but just reading some of their articles of faith and teachings of Brigham Young and Joseph Smith is unsettling.
I understand Mitt better though. He comes from a people who send their children out to spread the good word and tell them to lie if it’ll get you in the door.

I read this post and it sounds really mean. I feel kind of bad now that I said these things about someone’s religion. Some of it is tame though if you read what some of the exmormon people have posted about their experiences.
I apologize if I’ve offended anyone’s religion here. I may have been out of place but I tried to stick to verifiable facts although I certainly had my own take on them.
I considered NOT hitting submit but that too would have been wrong. I guess what I’m saying is dress me down if I have sinned here, please. But also, understand that I am just trying to understand and if anyone here can help me be better informed and more tolerant, I’m willing to learn and grow.
I admit it. I have a real problem with Mitt. Don’t like him. Fake, fake, fake.
I shouldn’t need to pick on his religion though, there are many other good reasons not to trust this man. I was just trying to gain a little insight into his flip-flopping nature by looking at his roots and beliefs.
Again, sorry for bashing a religion I have only begun to investigate. I will learn from this.
I think I’ll have a cold beer and try to forgive myself for treading where I usually dare not tread.

Mitt is a flip flopper, an opportunist, a man with a lot of money, who intends to purchase the presidency. Perhaps his religious beliefs are sincere. Or, like Bush, he uses religion to advance a political agenda. Since his religion is suspect among Evangelicals, it can work for or against him. I hope it works against him, because I am weary of seeing religion mixed into government, and the damage that causes. You can be a moral, principled, ethical person without religion. You can be a spiritual person without organized religion. It has its place in society, but not in government. We are a multicultural, multiethnic society with a wide mix of religious beliefs. That is why those beliefs need to remain personal. Politicians who use religion to advance their quest for position and power leave me cold. It should be a red flag to others, as well. It says: “I will use any means to an end to get what I want.”

for me, “mean” is something else – because the “really mean” thing was the quote you gave
