Latest GOP cure: be pickier
The newest conservative columnist for The New York Times, Ross Douthat, sometimes billed as a “thinking man’s conservative,” just checked in with the latest prescription for the GOP’s ills. What the party needs, he insists, is more moderates. Nothing particularly new there, of course, but he goes farther: it’s not just any old moderates the party needs, he continues — not bums like Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Lincoln Chafee — but some new, rather vaguely described, brand of moderates. You know, moderates that even a conservative can love.
Yeah that’s the ticket. What better solution for a party that’s bleeding members faster than a stuck pig with a reduced clotting factor than to get pickier about who they let in.
It almost makes one feel sorry for those right wing billionaires who spent hundreds of millions of dollars building a vast right wing intellectual infrastructure, largely with the intent of growing new generations of conservative thinkers: is this all they got for their money?

The Repugnants are fast becoming the party of dull-witted bigots and fat-cat millionaires with poor business judgement, fueled by greed. Why would any sane person want to join them?
