that’s true bravery
and to understand, that the Soviets had something like an inferiority complex, so they couldn’t do anything else than prove to “be better than…, to fight better than…, to die better than…” – that’s true intelligence
not only in protecting a nation – that’s pure evolution, using intelligence to protect its smartest – and weakest – race (btw: thanks for the “New Fossil”-link)
isn’t that irony of fate? Isn’t that an overwhelming lesson? Never ever use war to reach a goal. Because – in the end – you may only get the opposite effect
why? Think of Hitler – before Hitler the Jews were an unpopular minority almost everywhere, widely spread, strongly entwined (aka isolated), far away from being a nation – than Hitler used force and war against them – now they are the “regional superpower”. As history tells us, they were never a strong nation, even in times of the “Great Kings” you can’t find anything about them, they seem to be nothing else than one of the many peasant kingdoms of history. Now they are – for the first time – a “regional superpower”. Imagine that!
And because it’s the first time that they are a mighty nation, i guess, they won’t give up their “crown jewels” nukes. And the rest of the Middle East? Inferiority complex like the Soviets, therefore they would never ever risk to lose face even when they have to sacrifice their children…
another irony of fate – without Bush’s unnecessary war, Iran might have elected the democratic parts of politics
never use war…
but what if Bush and the Neocons also now have an inferiority complex, no longer able to control the own emotions? Then they can’t stop acting like alpha chimps, have to make noise and jump around and never look like “being unconscionably weak”
isn’t there a Super Nanny for the rude kids?

– sorry, OT, but i went pale…
A British Air Force doctor on trial for refusing to go to Iraq because he thought the war was illegal said on Wednesday he believed the United States was the moral equivalent of Nazi Germany….
Prosecutor David Perry asked: “Are you saying the U.S. is the moral equivalent of the Third Reich?” to which Kendall-Smith replied “That’s correct.”

These people are interested in nothing but winning elections and holding on to power. I’m afraid Iran will be the October Surprise we all fear and loath.
It would be nice if some generals who aren’t retired would speak out.
And what do we have for diplomacy these days? There are no cool heads, no voices of reason in our State Dept. anymore. Our diplomats are just bullies.
Bush is always spoiling for a fight. Cheney is nuts. Rummy doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. Rice just oozes incompetence. Congress is as irrelevent as “old Europe”. There has to be a better way, but not with this team. We don’t have time to stop their next disastrous move because we are stuck with the leaders we have, not the ones we wish we had.
Who can speak with any credibility? I can think of no one in our present government who can be trusted or believed.
Israel is key to any talks or peaceful solutions and so are Russia and China.
I agree we should explore any deals Iran might be willing to consider. But that guy is a nut too! The crazies have taken over the asylum and our only hope is that they don’t blow each other up before the day shift comes.
Our fear should be about dropping a nuke…..period. That is the slippery slope, Pandor’s Box, can of worms that could be Bush’s most catastrophic success …..yet.

As he is such a lifelong and empassioned student of history, I’m really surprised GW has learned nothing from Kennedy’s actions during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Oh wait… that’s right. I forgot. He’s an idiot with a tiny penis complex. Fuck.

Considering how badly Litle Bush has squandered American Moral athority, leadership, or any sort of diplomatic leverage, I think that the only way we could get either Iran or Isreal to give up their nukes is with some sort of reverse psycology.
A lot of criminal trials and RICO law enforcement would make a dent in the economic mess, but cleaning up the diplomatic messes he has created could take generations.

Good one, alwayshope!
There is an old Star Trek episode (”The Naked Time”) in which the Enterprise is spiraling down to disaster toward the planet, but they cannot even BEGIN to address this pressing problem until FIRST they deal with the madman in the engine room – Reilly who has been struck by an insanity disease has taken over engineering and the ship and is crazily singing “I’ll Take You Home Again, Kathleen” on the shipwide intercom again and again and again. I don’t know, but somehow that seems similar to real life these days!
