What’s the point of non-secret code names?

The Secret Service apparently has come up with code names for the new First Family: Barack Obama: Renegade Michelle Obama: Renaissance Malia Obama: Radiance Sasha Obama: Rosebud Now, could some one explain to me what the point is of having these nifty “secret” code names if everyone in the world knows what they are?

I could be wrong, but I think these “secret” code names are for letting the press think the have something of interest. It would only make sense if there really ARE secret code names we’ll probably never know about. As it should be…

I heard on NBC Nightly News that these code names are a tradition, and are no longer meant to be a secret.
